My old buddy Tom Silverman is reviving the New Music Seminar, a seminal music biz event that was last held in 1995. Tommy, along with two other guys, founded the New Music Seminar in 1980 and grew it into a must attend annual gathering. The revived NMS will be held in NY on July 21 and will be geared toward “disenfranchised artists disheartened by the state of the industry and desperate for change.” Love that line. Tickets for the one day event are only $99 and you can register at www.newmusicseminar.biz.

Tommy started off publishing a dance music newsletter out of his apartment in Yorkville. I spent many a near comatose night on the couch in that apartment back in the day. Tommy, as many of you know, went on to form Tommy Boy Records where he discovered and had hits with the likes of Afrika Bambaataa, Coolio, Everlast, De La Soul, Naughty by Nature, Rupaul, among many others. Warner Records came along and purchased 50% of the company and Tommy then developed a fondness for fine Bordeaux. Petrus, anyone?
