BREAKING NEWS: Grammy Opener To Give Respect To Aretha

UPDATE: Today, Feb 9, 2011, NARAS confirmed this story in a press release on the website at 3:55 AM this morning. Also announced are the additional singers appearing in the tribute with Aguilera and Hudson: Yolanda Adams, Martina McBride, and Florence Welch. Additionally, in a live telephone interview with Headline News yesterday, Aretha confirmed the Grammy tribute and said that she would make an appearance on the telecast, as speculated, via video from her home in Detroit.

The Grammy Awards are set to be televised this coming Sunday night. Every year it opens with a big show stopping number that is kept under wraps until airtime. It’s always top secret in Grammy land. But my sources deep within the bowels of the show gave me the inside poop. This year the big show opener will be a tribute to Aretha Franklin featuring Christina Aguilera, fresh off her Super Bowl fumble, and Jennifer Hudson, among others. Odds are that the Queen of Soul may even make an appearance to put an exclamation point on the segment and her recovery from a recent undisclosed illness.

But here’s the $64 question: can Aguilera spell R-E-S-P-P-E-C-T?

to avoid a future nathional anthem snafu, why not list the words on the telescreen and everyone can sing along.
